Due to their scattered location over the island, seeing all 10 of the greatest locations described above would require a substantial amount of travel. The aforementioned spots can be found all around Sri Lanka, some in the cultural triangle and others on the beaches in the west and south. Among Sri Lanka’s top 10 tourism destinations are the central provinces of Nuwara Eliya and Kandy. However, you can see all of these places and more on the Seerendipity Sri Lanka 10-day tour. The island’s rainforests, beaches, historical sites, water sports centres, wildlife reserves, Ayurveda health resorts, and adventure activities are also popular, although the most popular beach resorts in Sri Lanka are located along the southern and western coastlines (Kalpitiya, Marawila, Negombo, Wadduwa, Kalutara, Bentota, Hikkaduwa, Unawatuna, and Tangalle).
Because of its beautiful white sands, Bentota attracts more than half of Sri Lanka’s beachgoers, making it one of the best beaches in the country. One of the top ten tourist destinations in Sri Lanka is Bentota Beach.
For a 10-day Sri Lanka itinerary, here are the fifteen recommended beaches
Here are fifteen of Sri Lanka’s best beaches for a relaxing beach getaway. Vacationers should find out when certain beaches are at their best before committing to a trip. For the west and south coast beaches, the best time to come is between November and April, whereas the east coast beaches are busiest from April to November.
If you want to go to the west coast of Sri Lanka, when is the best time to go?
The west coast of Sri Lanka is best visited during the dry months of November through April. Listed here are some of Sri Lanka’s most visited beaches on the western coast.
- Kalpitiya Beach on the West Coast
- Negombo beach on the coast’s western side
- Western Marawila coasts
- Beaches on Kalutara’s western coast
- Bentota Beach on the West Coast
- Beach in Hikkaduwa
- Bay of Unawatuna
- West Coast Beach in Weligama
- The Mirissa coastline on the southern coast

- Hambantota is home to South Coast Beach
- East Coast Beach in Nilaveli
- The Pasikudah coast on the east
- On the eastern coast, not far from Kalkudah
- The eastern coast of Arugam Bay
Sri Lanka has a coastline that is undeveloped for 1300 km. On the other hand, a lot of these beaches are in remote places where not many people go. The west coast beaches are the end destination for the vast majority of the almost 50% of foreign tourists who travel along the coast of Sri Lanka. A quarter of Sri Lanka’s tourists opt to stay along the east coast, while the rest head south.
This article will focus on the beaches found along the coasts of Sri Lanka’s western and southern regions. Curious individuals go to these renowned tourist spots on the island. The winter months of November through April are the allotted travel time for this 10-day schedule. The most popular places to go on vacation right now are the sandy beaches on the southern and western shores.
Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Bandarawela, Ella, and Haputale are all part of Sri Lanka’s hill country, which is a favourite stop on 10-day tours because of its stunning landscapes, rich history, and exciting outdoor activities.
The cultural triangle is a must-see on any Sri Lankan itinerary that spans ten days
Many Sri Lanka vacation packages, like the Sri Lanka 10-day one, include visits to some of the country’s most ancient cities. The cultural triangle, which includes the old towns of Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Dambulla, Sigiriya, Pidurangala, and Matale, is home to several UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Because it is home to so many important historical sites, Sri Lanka’s cultural triangle is always said to be one of the best ways to spend a vacation there. The cultural triangle sees a flood of international visitors every year. Tourists should allow at least three days to visit the three main sites that make up Sri Lanka’s cultural triangle. Within the cultural triangle lies Sri Lanka’s highest concentration of World Heritage Sites recognised by UNESCO. Hence, most 10-day Sri Lankan itineraries incorporate the cultural triangle.
Sri Lanka’s cultural triangle conceals historical wonders including Anuradhapura, Sigiriya, the Dambulla cave shrine, Polonnaruwa, and Kandy. A visit to Sri Lanka’s cultural triangle is the first stop on a typical 10-day itinerary. Travellers spend the first two or four nights in the cultural triangle, setting sail.

When would you recommend starting a 10-day Sri Lankan tour?
This 10-day journey is available year-round because Sri Lanka is a popular tourist destination. However, there is a small chance that the precise timetable for your island visit can change. Since two separate monsoons hit Sri Lanka every year, they have a substantial impact on the country’s weather patterns. The island is only permeable by monsoons, and each one has its own unique effect. This means that seasonal monsoons and the subsequent downpours of precipitation only affect a small portion of the island. This is the pattern of two monsoons:
Planing a 10-day trip to Sri Lanka during the Southwest Monsoon season (May–October),
The island receives copious amounts of rain from the southwest monsoon, which floods everything from the west coast beaches to the south coast mountains. While beach holidays on the west and south coasts aren’t ideal right now, the east coast is dry and has more things to do. From May through October, a 10-day beach holiday in Sri Lanka in Argam Bay or Pasikudah, two beaches on the east coast, is perfect. Make sure to involve them in your schedule. Most of the southwest monsoon’s intensity occurs between May and October.
A trip to Sri Lanka from November to April, when the northeast monsoon is in full swing
The northeast monsoon, which as its name suggests, originates from that coast, dumps a lot of rain on Sri Lanka’s northeastern region. The northeast monsoon makes swimming in the seas close to the north and east beaches unsafe from November to April. Located in southwestern Sri Lanka, Hikkaduwa Beach and Bentota Beach are perfect for a beach vacation from November to April.
The northern and eastern parts of Sri Lanka are usually not included in 10-day plans. There has been an influx of tourists to Jaffna, Trincomalee, Nilaveli, Kalkudah, and Pasikudah since the end of the civil war in 2009. May through October sees a surge of visitors to this section of Sri Lanka, who come to experience the region’s stunning Hindu culture, relax on its beautiful beaches, and marvel at its breathtaking nature. The northeastern part of Sri Lanka cannot be covered in this 10-day itinerary due to scheduling constraints.
Planned itinerary for a weeklong journey to Sri Lanka
Organising one’s own journey to a foreign nation is no easy feat. While there is no shortage of places to book your lodging, transportation, excursions, and activities, it could be difficult to figure out which ones provide the best deals.

Many of our previous customers had wonderful vacations in Sri Lanka after following our tried-and-true 10-day schedule. Please take a moment to read the feedback on the tour page.

Please contact Serendipity Tours at [email protected] if you would like to make personalised changes to the trip schedule. The price is based on two people staying in the room; therefore, if you only want to make one reservation, please let us know. What It Would Cost to Travel Around Sri Lanka for 10 Days
Accommodation, transport and entrance fees will cover the bulk of your 10-day Sri Lankan adventure. The star rating of the accommodations determines whether a ten-day vacation in Sri Lanka might cost more than $1,000. The complete opposite is true; throughout this entire ten-day stay in Sri Lanka, we will only stay in four-star accommodations. It costs $890 USD for an individual to go on the 10-day tour.
From my own experience, I can tell you that a luxurious beach resort in Sri Lanka is not required for a relaxing and worry-free beach holiday. Affordable, pleasant, and clean lodging is available at dorms, guest homes, rest houses, room rentals, and similar businesses.
On a ten-day self-guided tour of Sri Lanka, what should you see and do?
Hotels in popular tourist spots are plentiful and can accommodate a wide range of budgets. All of the aforementioned types of hotels fall into one of three broad categories: moderate, budget, and luxury. You can save money and get a better deal if you book your hotel room directly with the establishment rather than going through a middleman while on tour. Especially inexpensive hotel alternatives.
Basic lodging establishments, such as inns and B&Bs, allow customers to negotiate the price of their rooms, in contrast to chain hotels that include everything in the listed fee. The majority of these budget hotels are privately owned and run.
If you’re looking for a cheap place to live, be ready to negotiate. Talk to the people who are helping with accommodations about this. An extra 10%–30% may be added to your total, depending on the third party who manages your reservation.
In order to reach Sri Lanka in ten days, what kind of transportation would be most practical?
A 10-day trip to Sri Lanka isn’t complete without reliable transportation, second only in importance to accommodations. Travelling across Sri Lanka in a private vehicle driven by a friendly local is the most convenient and pleasant option. If you aren’t used to the crowded roads, getting around the island could be a challenge. Tourists from other countries should definitely hire a car service with a local driver. Hiring a private driver to come to your destination allows you to easily see the area and gives you more time for fun things to do on your own. There was one less thing to worry about, after all.
So that you can see all fifteen of Sri Lanka’s must-see sights in just ten days, we have arranged for your air-conditioned luxury automobile travel. This vehicle is equipped with all-modern amenities, including WiFi, reclining seats, climate control, and more. It is fully air-conditioned.

Day 1: Sri Lanka 10-day tour
It is possible to go around Sri Lanka in ten days from Colombo. Most international travellers fly into Colombo International Airport because of how close it is to Negombo and Katunayake International Airports. This 10-day Sri Lanka holiday package, therefore, starts in Colombo, as do all of the others.
Instead of tackling a full touring schedule right after a long flight, most tourists would prefer to relax on the first day of their trip. From their home nation, some visitors travel all the way to Colombo in a single day. Extreme hunger, extreme exhaustion, and an urgent need for a place to rest are the hallmarks of their arrival. This is why most tourists who come to Sri Lanka want to kick back and relax the moment they land. Our first night of our ten-day Sri Lankan vacation will be in Negombo, so we may accomplish this dream. At the same time, nothing more than relaxing on a beach will occupy the day. A beach resort is conveniently located near the airport, so you can relax and enjoy your first night away from home.
After a long journey to Sri Lanka, spend the first day relaxing in Negombo.
A dramatic increase in visitors has been recorded at Negombo, which is located on the western coast of Sri Lanka. The international airport is conveniently located near Negombo. Everything a traveller may desire is available in Negombo, including places to stay, dine, play, and visit. The location of most hotels and motels is on Lewis Road, which is also the main entrance for most tourists.
You won’t get to experience Negombo to its full potential because it isn’t part of any recommended 10-day plans for seeing the best of Sri Lanka. Among the many sights that Seerendipity Tours can set up are a couple of cathedrals, Negombo’s fish market, and lagoons.
Spend the first night of your 10-day Sri Lankan adventure at a beach resort in Negombo.
Day 2: Sri Lanka 10-day tour
A ten-day journey begins in Sri Lanka, at the cultural triangle. The vast majority of tourists that come to the cultural triangle want to see its ancient landmarks. We have included visits to the most famous sites within the cultural triangle in response to a common request from tourists who are planning 10-day itineraries in Sri Lanka. Any cultural triangle tour should begin in the historically rich city of Anuradhapura.
What can we expect to see and do on Day Two?
- Anuradhapura, an ancient city
- Buddha statue in Aukana
- Historic Mihintale Temple
Anuradhapura
Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka’s first metropolis, dates back to the third century BC. The cultural tourist excursions all start at Anuradhapura, a World Heritage Site recognised by UNESCO. Among the fifteen most essential destinations to see in ten days, the historic city of Anuradhapura is located in Sri Lanka’s north-central region.
Visiting Mihintale as part of a 10-day Sri Lankan itinerary
Legend has it that Mihintale played a pivotal role in bringing Buddhism to Sri Lanka. Mihintale Temple is not only one of the most important Buddhist buildings in Sri Lanka, but it is also one of the oldest. In the second century BC, King Devanampiytissa built the Mihintale temple. Stupas, Buddha statues, and the ruins of an old hospital are among the historical objects that visitors can see at this location.
During our ten-day stay in Sri Lanka, visit Buddhist statues of Aukana
The north-central province of Sri Lanka is home to the enchanting Aukana, a destination that is well worth a visit. Due to its secluded position in Sri Lanka, this temple is frequently overlooked by tourists. The temple still holds historical importance today, even though it was constructed in the fifth century AD, during King Dhathusena’s reign. This temple is not only one of the oldest in Sri Lanka, but it also showcases exceptional antique Sri Lankan masonry. Crafted from a single slab of granite, the hand-carved Aukana Buddha statue is the temple’s most notable attraction. Perfect condition characterises the 44-foot-tall Buddha statue, which stands at 14 metres.
After visiting the Buddha statues in Anuradhapura, Mihintale, and Aukana, your next stop will be Sigiriya’s Palace of the Lions (Habaran), where you’ll wind down for the night. The aforementioned points of interest might make for an eight-hour day trip.
Day 3: Sri Lanka 10-day tour
The laid-back vibe of Habarana is well-known in central and northern Sri Lanka. Habarana is the premier jumping off point for excursions all around Sri Lanka’s cultural triangle because of its central position. Thanks to its strategic placement in the cultural triangle, Habarana offers easy access to Sigiriya, Dambulla, Anuradhapura, Kandy, and Polonnaruwa. When compared, Habarana does not include all of Sri Lanka’s top tourist spots that are within a week’s travel time.
What should one focus on the most on the third day of a ten-day trip?
The Sigiriya palace complex, perched on a rocky ledge, dates back to the fifth century and features a palace, gardens, moats, lakes, fountains, and more. Located 500 metres above mean sea level, atop a massive boulder, King Kashyapa built his fortress. The paintings can be found about halfway down the path to the summit.
On the fourth day of a ten-day visit of Sri Lanka
After you finish your delicious dinner, it’s time to explore the old city of Sigiriya. Sigiriya is a granite fortification that takes about three hours to explore. Our guide will give you the lowdown on all the must-see attractions in the Sigiriya area. After that, you can spend the afternoon at your own exploring Sigiriya and Habarana. Afterwards, spend some time at the Dambulla Golden Temple.
Day4: Sri Lanka 10-day tour
- Temple of Dambulla
- The Sigiriya Rock Fortress
A trip to Sigiriya
The entrance fee to Sigiriya is $30 USD. A complimentary visit to the Sigiriya rock fortress will be arranged per your guide when you reserve a 10-day Sri Lanka holiday through Seerendipity Tours.
Your climb up the rock face will begin in the wee hours of the morning or late afternoon, when the sun will be least intense. Keep a bottle of water on hand in case you get thirsty while climbing. After a morning of seeing the rock citadel, visitors should relax and replenish their energy at a local eatery.
It is highly recommended that you hire a guide who is well-versed in the history of the Sigiriya rock castle if you intend to explore the site on your own. With extensive knowledge of the area and fluency in nearly every language, these tour guides are an invaluable asset. Even though the average guiding charge is around Rs 2500, you should discuss this topic with your guide before the climb starts. If you don’t have access to a local guide, a manual will do.
Visiting Dambulla’s golden temple
The Dambulla Golden Temple has been a place of prayer for the Buddhist community for about two thousand years. A part of Sri Lanka’s cultural triangle, it adds to the beauty of the island. Of all the cave temples in the world, this one in Sri Lanka is the biggest. In honour of its historical and spiritual significance, the Dambulla Golden Temple has been designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The temple was supposedly established in the first century BC by King Walagambahu, according to the chronicles. This ostentatious Buddhist temple is crammed with frescoes and sculptures and sits within five natural caves.
Day 5: Sri Lanka 10-day tour
Visit Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka’s second-most-historical city, after breakfast. Polonnaruwa makes it possible to visit Sri Lanka in just ten days. It takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes to drive from Habarana to Polonnaruwa. It will cost you $25 to enter the museum as well as the Polonnaruwa archaeological complex. You can only purchase your tickets at the museum’s archaeological store.
The diminutive size of Polonnaruwa, another ancient city, makes it much easier to navigate than Anuradhapura. Among city landmarks, bicycling is another common mode of transportation. Your evening in Habarana will begin with a return to your hotel after dinner.
When visiting Sri Lanka for 10 days, where would one be best to begin their journey on the fifth day?
- Polonnaruwa is an old town in Sri Lanka
- Visit Minneriya National Park on an Adventure!
- Kimbissa Village Tour
Day 6: Sri Lanka 10-day tour
After you finish your brunch, head to Kandy, another island must-see. Kandy is another must-see on a 10-day Sri Lankan vacation. Driving the 100 miles from Habarana to Kandy takes about two hours. After ten days of touring Sri Lanka, we’ll spend the next two days at Kandy.
There are a number of interesting places to see on the way from Habarana to Kandy, and the amount of time spent at each will obviously vary. The spice garden, Muttumari Amman temple, Batik industry, and Matale Aluvihara are all notable sites that are located near Habaran and Kandy.
On your afternoon Kandy sightseeing tour, you can see a traditional performance, wander around the Royal Botanical Gardens, and see the Temple of the Tooth Relic. Most tourists consider the retail district an absolute must-see. Because of their near closeness, getting from one to the other shouldn’t be a problem. Everything else, with the exception of the Royal Botanic Gardens, can be reached on foot with ease.
What should I do and see on the sixth day of my ten-day Sri Lankan vacation?
- Visit Spice garden
- Visiting Tooth Relic Temple
- Celebration of Kandyan Culture
- Peradeniya Botanical Garden
- Kandy city tour
- The Museum of Gems
Sacred site of the tooth artefact
The city’s main attraction is the shrine that houses the tooth relic. At around 5:30, 09:30, and 18:00 every day, you will get the most benefits from visiting the shrine that houses the tooth relic. Take a closer look at the Thevava ritual.
Day 7: Sri Lanka 10-day tour
There is more than enough time to learn about the culture and people of Sri Lanka in just six days. Our destination today is the highland village of Nuwara Eliya, famous for its relaxing atmosphere and hot springs. During our entire 10-day Sri Lankan adventure, this spot was my fave.
When visiting Sri Lanka for ten days, what might one expect to see on the seventh day?
- Eliya Nuwara
- The lake at Gregory
- Historic Victoria Park
- The tea factory and plantation
A ten-day vacation in Sri Lanka includes a picturesque train ride across the island’s interior
Once we have finished breakfast, we plan to take the train from Kandy to Nanu Oya. Nuwara Eliya is nearest to the station Nanu Oya. An absolutely breathtaking train ride takes place between Kandy and Nuwara Eliya. Nuwara Eliya is served daily by multiple trains departing from Kandy. An early morning train will take you from Kandy.
You can get a rail ticket purchased for you by Seerendipity Tours. The base fee for the 10-day Sri Lanka vacation bundle includes the train trip. You will have a better time in the economy class rooms. Waterfalls, mountains, tea plantations, and many caverns are just some of the spectacular natural beauty that the train passes through throughout its three or four hours of travel.
Nuwara Eliya and the Sri Lankan Highlands are on your ten-day itinerary.
Downtown Nuwara Eliya, Gregory Lake, and the Victoria Garden are among the city’s most popular attractions. The Pedro Tea Factory, located ten minutes outside of Nuwara Eliya, allows visitors to witness the process of creating tea firsthand.
Day 8: Sri Lanka 10-day tour
Early in the morning, leave Nuwara Eliya and make your way to Tissamaharama in Sri Lanka’s southern region. Part of the roughly three-hour journey is a visit to the Sita Amman temple as well as Ravana Falls. After checking into the hotel at approximately noon, you’ll have lunch and some down time before hitting the road to Yala National Park.
On day eight of a ten-day plan, what sights would you like to see?
- Nature Reserve Yala
- Sita amman temple
- Temple of Kataragama
Yala national park safari
Surprisingly, Yala does not have many hotels that are located near the wildlife reserve. There aren’t a tonne of places to stay close to Yala National Park, even though it’s generally considered the top tourist draw in southern Sri Lanka. If you are visiting Sri Lanka for 10 days, you must not miss Yala National Park.
Nearby Tissamaharama you may find most of the island’s lodging establishments. About 1.5 hours is the time required to get from Tissamaharama to Yala National Park by private automobile.
It is planned to have the Yala safari in the afternoon, and the journey from Nuwara Eliya to Tissamarama will take about four hours. The Yala safari is expected to start at around 1400 hours. He is known as Tissamaharama in the academic community. Seeing wild creatures is best done later in the afternoon, when the sun’s rays have dipped below the horizon. Seerendipity Tours will take care of the park fees and jeeps for your safari. Your guide will announce the official start time of the safari.
See the Kataragama and Murugan temples
The Kataragama Temple, often called the Murugan Temple, is the most visited Sri Lankan religious and historical site. Every day, thousands of pilgrims visit the shrine. Those departing from Kataragama in Tissamharama can take a bus to this functioning temple. There is hardly any distance between the temple and Tissamaharama. Everyone is welcome to visit the Kataragama Temple for free.
Day 9: Sri Lanka 10-day tour
Take it easy on Unawatuna Beach’s southernmost dunes after a substantial meal. Many consider Unawatuna to be Sri Lanka’s most scenic and remote beach. On the other hand, going to the shore is when some tourists plan their safari.
When planning a 10-day trip to Sri Lanka, what might one expect on the ninth day?
- Coastline of Mirissa
Planning a 10-day vacation to Sri Lanka and deciding which beaches to see
The west coast beach resorts of Hikkaduwa and Galle attract a quarter of the country’s beachgoers, while the deep south beaches of Matara, Mirissa, Hambantota, and Tangalle attract tens of thousands more.
The Unawatuna beach resort offers marine bathing as an extra amenity alongside boating, scuba diving, snorkelling, and more. Only one night will be spent at the beach resort. Staying at the same resort or checking into a different beach hotel are two options for those planning a lengthy beach holiday.
Day 10: Sri Lanka 10-day tour
After breakfast, drive to Colombo, stopping at Galle Fort and Hikkaduwa Beach on the way. Afternoon sightseeing in Colombo
On the ninth day of our Sri Lankan tour, where should we go?
- The Fortress of Galle
- A Visit to Hikkaduwa Beach
- Madu river estuary
- The Fortress of Galle
Many people go to see the Galle Fort since it is the only Sri Lankan site in the southern region to be designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. I chose to visit Galle Fort during my brief stay in Sri Lanka, which was barely 10 days. Located close to the port of Galle, the fort is a remarkable landmark with a history spanning centuries. The Galle fortress is an essential stop on any southern Sri Lankan itinerary.
