Itineraries

Day 1

Colombo / Bentota / Galle / Yala

You will be met and warmly greeted by your personal chauffeur guide at the Bandaranaike International Colombo Airport or your hotel in Colombo and drive to Yala via Galle (approximately a 6-hour drive with sightseeing),

Stop At Galle Fort, the UNESCO world heritage site in the south and the most important iconic tourist attraction in southern Sri Lanka, it sits halfway on the track to Yala from Colombo.

On the River Safari of Madu, this Ramsar wetland is a natural jewel with a large tract of mangrove forest and a wide range of wildlife such as monkeys, crocodiles, and monitors, as well as a large number of aquatic avian fauna species.

Other important places to encounter on the program are the spice garden, mask museum, sea turtle conservation project, and moonstone mines.

TURTLE HATCHERY
Projects have been launched to conserve the population of turtles that are reaching extinction, and such projects are found along the southern coast of Sri Lanka, where turtles come ashore to lay their eggs. The turtle digs a hole on the Beach, Lays her eggs, and covers them with sand where they are supposed to incubate in the heat of the sun. What often happens is, the eggs are dug out by fishermen and sold to people who consume them.

But now the eggs are bought up by the conservation projects and are hatched the Natural way in enclosed areas where the Birds don’t have a chance of picking them up, and the babies are let into the sea after two days at night, which offers them a better chance of survival.

SPICE GARDEN
Visit a spice garden at Bentota, where spices and herbs used for Sri Lankan cuisine and medication are grown The spices of Sri Lanka attracted the early seafaring merchants who made the long voyages to purchase this precious merchandise.

MADU GANGA BOAT RIDE
In the global context, the ecological importance of this site has garnered it the ‘Ramsar Wetland’ status in 2003, making it the second largest wetland in Sri Lanka with a colossal 915 hectares and 23 islands inhabited by nearly 300 families. The River Sanctuary is now a Tourist Development Area and a Special Area Managed (SAM) by the Coast Conservation Department. Balapitiya is where the ‘Madu Ganga’ makes its home.

City OF Galle
Galle is one of the ancient seaports of Sri Lanka and was an anchor point on the Silk Route. It was later discovered by the Portuguese, who built a fortress, and the Dutch that succeeded them fortified it further. This fortress is now a World Heritage Site.

GALLE FORTRESS
The fort has a colorful history, and today it has a multi-ethnic and multi-religious population. The Sri Lankan government and many Dutch people who still own some of the properties inside the fort are looking at making this one of the modern wonders of the world. The heritage value of the fort has been recognized by UNESCO, and the site has been inscribed as a cultural heritage UNESCO World Heritage Site under criteria iv for its unique exposition of "an urban ensemble that illustrates the interaction of European architecture and South Asian traditions from the 16th to the 19th centuries.

The Galle Fort, also known as the Dutch Fort or the "Ramparts of Galle", withstood the Boxing Day tsunami, which damaged part of the coastal area of Galle town. It has been restored. The Galle Fort also houses the elite Amangalla resort hotel, located near the Dutch Reformed Church. It was originally built in 1684 to house the Dutch Governor and his staff. It was then converted into a hotel and named the New Oriental Hotel in 1865, which catered to European passengers traveling between Europe and Galle Port in the 19th century.

UNAWATUNA BEACH
Unawatuna Beach is located just south of Galle, the main city in the south, and 125 kilometers from Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka. This 4-kilometer expanse of palm-fringed sand is said by some to rank among the twelve best beaches in the world. This beach is a paradise for all those who yearn to enjoy the silence of the sea and dive deep into the blue waters of the ocean. There is a reef protecting the beach, which makes it a perfect safe haven for bathing. Other major attractions of this southern beach include shallow waters for swimming and diving. Within its reach, there is an accessible, reasonably well-preserved coral reef that serves as the base for snorkeling.

HIKKADUWA
Hikkaduwa is one of the most popular tourist destinations in southern Sri Lanka. It is 98 km south of Colombo, and its beautiful beaches add a lot of glamour to this town. It is the place where you can get a glimpse of the fascinating underwater world and see the creatures that inhabit the unfathomable depths of the sea. The famed coral gardens are located here. 1. Ivan:

Can have a nice time on the beautiful beaches during the trip. same times had a wildlife safari, and we wanted to see the leopards, but not chance this time. But southern Sri Lanka tour was a nice program and very interesting itinerary for a 3 days tour. Amara was extremely knowledgeable about the Sri Lanka, its culture, wildlife and the history of srilanka. Hhe was friendly and very accommodating to our needs. We very highly recommend srilanka 3 days tour.

  2. evie:

It was our second visit to Sri Lanka and we wanted to see some interesting places in south of the country and we wanted to spend more time on relaxing. 3 days Sri Lanka tour to southern Sri Lanka was idela program for us. It includes many interesting places like Yala, Udawlawe and Galle. Very relaxing trip

  3. Sean Allan:

The trip is short and we purposely booked it because we did not want to spend much time on sightseeing tour. We are very happy with the 3 days short trip and enjoyed a lot. We were able to see lot of things thanks to the proper planoing. Yala safari was the most memorable part of the trip and gave us perfect opprtuinity to see a large number of animals. Gihan was a very good guide and very helpful, good hotels and good vehicle too.

  4. hams meagrow:

Verry good Sri Lanka trip, very relaxing trip and enjoyed the beaches, wildlife and beautiful scenery in the hill country.

  5. robin:

Fantastic! Everyday I felt immersed, educated and safe in the Sri Lankan culture, history, wildlife, thanks to Sams hospitality and knowledge of Sri Lanka. The Itinerary was thorough and exciting – it exceeded expectations. Loved the wildlife tour and visit to the leisurely walk on the beach and all of the conversations about Sri Lankan people, history, culture, religion and spirituality.

  6. Susan:

We thoroughly enjoyed the southern Sri Lanak tour. Wildlife tour was the best. Our guide, Amara has a great sense of humor — which we enjoyed — and was very informative about the various sites and nature. Thanks, Amara, for a fun, interesting and tasty morning!

  7. Debbie:

If you are expecting to see leopards, and elephants, taste delicious seafood, walk in an ancient city with small stops along the way and dip into the warm waters of Indian Ocean – this is it. There is no end to things on the plus side, we went to places that we possibly wouldn’t have visited without planning it through an operator. Spice/herbal garden, mask museum, moonstone mines, Kande vihara, and turtle conservation are some of them. We really looked forward to enjoying the wildlife tour because we like wild animals. But Sri Lanka’s southern tour was a lot more than watching fascinating wildlife in Sri Lanka. We are very happy wiht the trip and well worth our timer and money.

  8. Sharon:

I feel the tour can be more interesting if the duration of the trip can be increased.

  9. Erin:

If you want to be entertained while enjoy the Sri Lanka beaches, take a SriLanka south coast tour with Amara. It’s clear Amara loves his country and his job, he has very good knowledge of his country, people, customs, history, religion, and nature and has a wonderful sense of humor. The tour was well organized with good hotels, and food well worth tourist attractions. Yala safari was the best and the walking tour of Galle fort was second.

  10. Jim:

We had a great tour with Sam! He took us to a number of great places in south sri lanka and pointed out important attractions we probably would have missed if we had done the tour on our own. Even better, he provided great context on the history, culture and nature of Sri Lanka and shared his own unique perspective. His English is outstanding.

  11. Kumi Zu:

I really enjoyed the trip. Sam was a perfect guide and took us to so many great eating places. Also, the hotels were much better than expected. I especially liked the hotel in Yala. It is an exhausting 3 days but you get so much out of it, so very good for a first impression on Sri Lanka:)

  12. Taylor:

Do it. You won’t regret it. I feel like I got to see so much in within a short time. It’s not a ‘relaxing’ pace, but we covered so much ground and saw so much each day. Wonderful experience!

  13. Avril:

There is no better way to see the Sri Lanka’s south coast! If you are lucky enough to get Sam as a guide , he will change your life! This is a great intro to Sri Lanka, accomodation was great, good food and excellent guide.

  14. Neuman:

  21. peter:
