According to the ancient Sri Lankan chronicle the Culavamsa the site was selected by King Kasyapa (477 – 495 CE) for his new capital. He built his palace on the top of this rock and decorated its sides with colourful frescoes. On a small plateau about halfway up the side of this rock, he built a gateway in the form of an enormous lion. The name of this place is derived from this structure —Sīhāgiri, the Lion Rock. The capital and the royal palace were abandoned after the king's death. It was used as a Buddhist monastery until the 14th century.

Polonnaruwa
Polonnaruwa is the second most historical city in Sri Lanka. It was made the capital of Sri Lanka after Anuradhapura. The second most ancient of Sri Lanka's kingdoms, Polonnaruwa was first declared the capital city by King Vijayabahu I, who defeated the Chola invaders in 1070 to reunite the country once more under a local leader.

Today the ancient city of Polonnaruwa remains one of the best-planned archaeological relic sites in the country, standing testimony to the discipline and greatness of the Kingdom's first rulers. Hill country train journey
This is one of the most scenic rail trips in the world and a large number of travellers book the trip every day. Our guide will take you to the railway station and show you the correct compartment on the blue train. Enjoy your scenic train journey, and meet our guide upon reaching Nanu Oya railway station.

Nuwara Eliya
Nuwara Eliya is the administrative capital of Nuwara Eliya District, with a picturesque landscape and temperate climate. It is at an altitude of 1,868 m (6,128 ft) and is considered to be the most important location for tea production in Sri Lanka. The city is overlooked by Pidurutalagala, the tallest mountain in Sri Lanka. Nuwara Eliya is known for its temperate, cool climate – the coolest area in Sri Lanka.

Many of the buildings retain features from the colonial period such as the Queen's Cottage, General's House, Grand Hotel, Hill Club, St Andrew's Hotel and Town Post Office. New hotels are often built and furnished in the colonial style. Visitors to the city can wallow in its nostalgia of bygone days by visiting the landmark buildings. Many private homes maintain their old English-style lawns and gardens.

Later stop At: Tea Factory, Nuwara Eliya Sri Lanka
On completion of this visit, you will be driven to Nuwara Eliya. En route visit a tea plantation and tea factory where the best tea in the world is produced.

Tea factory
On a tea plantation visit, you can learn all about tea picking and tea processing and also enjoy some fine Sri Lankan tea tasting. It’s probably a much more exciting prospect if you’re a tea lover, but even if you’re not, the Hill Country (or Tea Country, as it’s sometimes called) is arguably the most scenic part of the island and worth a visit.

You’ll find rolling hills clad with row upon row of luscious, green tea plants. It’s often shrouded in a fine mist and is the perfect escape from the heat of Sri Lanka’s wonderful beaches (if you need an escape!).

This place is believed to be the site where Sita was held captive by Asur Samrat (Devil King) Ravana, and where she prayed daily for Rama to come and rescue her in the Hindu epic, Ramayana. On the rock face across the stream are circular depressions said to be the footprints of Lord Hanuman.

Ravana waterfall
This waterfall measures approximately 25 m (82 ft) in height and cascades from an oval-shaped concave rock outcrop. During the local wet season, the waterfall turns into what is said to resemble an areca flower with withering petals. But this is not the case in the dry season when the flow of water reduces dramatically. The falls form part of the Ravana Ella Wildlife Sanctuary and are located 6 km (3.7 mi) away from the local railway station at Ella

Yala national park

Day 6

Yala / Galle / Bentota

Stilt fisherman
Stilt fishing is a method of fishing unique to the island country of Sri Lanka, known as “the Pearl of the Indian Ocean”. The fishermen sit on a cross bar called a ‘Petta’ tied to a vertical pole and drive into the sand a few meters offshore. From this high position, the fishermen cast their line and wait until a fish comes along to be caught. Although the approach looks primitive and ancient,

Hikkaduwa
Hikkaduwa National Park is one of the three marine national parks in Sri Lanka. The national park contains a fringing coral reef with a high degree of biodiversity. The area was declared a wildlife sanctuary on May 18, 1979, and then on August 14, 1988, upgraded to a nature reserve with an extended land area. The growth of the number of visitors in the next 25 years increased the degradation of the coral reef. To reduce the effects on the ecosystem, the reef was declared a national park on September 19, 2002.

Galle
The fort has a colourful history, and today has a multi-ethnic and multi-religious population. The Sri Lankan government and many Dutch people who still own some of the properties inside the fort are looking at making this one of the modern wonders of the world. The heritage value of the fort has been recognized by UNESCO and the site has been inscribed as a cultural heritage UNESCO World Heritage Site under criteria iv, for its unique exposition of "an urban ensemble which illustrates the interaction of European architecture and South Asian traditions from the 16th to the 19th centuries.

Unawatuna beach
Unawatuna Beach is located just south of Galle, the main city in the south and 125km from Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka. This 4km expanse of palm-fringed sand is said by some to rank amongst the twelve best beaches in the world. This beach is a paradise for all those who yearn to enjoy the silence of the sea and dive deep into the blue waters of the ocean. There is a reef protecting the beach, which makes it perfectly a safe haven for bathing. Other major attractions of this southern beach include shallow waters for swimming and diving. Within its reach, there is an accessible, reasonably well-preserved coral reef that serves as the base for snorkelling.

Madu river safari
In the global context, the ecological importance of this site has garnered it the ‘Ramsar Wetland’ status in 2003 being the second largest wetland in Sri Lanka with a colossal 915 hectares with 23 islands inhabited by nearly 300 families. The River Sanctuary is now a Tourist Development Area and a Special Area Managed (SAM) by the Coast Conservation Department. Balapitiya is where the ‘Madu Ganga’ makes its home.

End of the trip

  1. Jim Klug:

Very safe driving and a very kind guide. Initially, I was terrified to travel on the left-hand drive road because I thought cars might crash into us. However, our driver was excellent and drove quite safely, so we felt very secure in his company. Fantastic trip with lots of fascinating things to do.

  2. Rodney:

Really enjoyed the splendor trip of Sri Lanka. It was the ideal balance of doing and witnessing. We adored the beaches, mountains, botanical garden, wildlife reserve, and cultural institutions. Additionally, ascending Sigiriya was an amazing experience that was well worth waking up early. Another highlight was witnessing the elephants in the wild. Malan, our tour guide, was incredibly informed and nothing was too much effort. I would heartily suggest doing this tour!

  3. Nelly:

Superb driver/guide providing outstanding service. A pleasant stay, a comfortable car, and tasty meals.

  4. Lootie:

One of the best ways to see the world is on a splendour tour, where you can savour local cuisine, meet friendly locals, and relax in verdant settings. Kumar, our driver/guide, was an amazing, entertaining, and helpful guy. Spectacular surprises, including new activities and delicious food, would pop up on a regular basis. The stunning beaches and strolls through the tea plantations were the highlights.

  5. Harjumat:

Everything was flawless. Our gracious driver Nusry was calm, knowledgeable, a great driver, and he paid attention to all of our needs. He provided insightful advice and was consistently on time. The vehicle was in flawless shape.

  6. Vishal Gupta:

Splendour tour of Srilanka was incredible experince. It covered every aspect of life and history and culture. We were treated to the very best food, the beaches are beautiful, the sunsets are exquisite, the locals are very kind and accomodating. Hotel staff are friendly and can’t do enough for us. The highlights such as wildlife safari, lion rock, the cave temples, glamping, fresh water creeks, tooth relic temple, the stupas, are incredible sights. We were very safe and never felt threatened. I recommend, do yourself a favour and go! You won’t be disappointed. And our driver/guide, Kusum was fantastic, the best guide we have ever had on a tour.

  7. Timothy Ouyang:

Splendour Sri Lanka tour was great. The trekking and hiking is not as strenuous as expected. It covers a great range of places and aspects of Sri Lanka. Our driver/guide Thila was though the reason for making this trip an unforgettable success.

  8. Ritiesh shong:

Splendour Sri Lanka was worth every penny! We saw and learnt so much through the entire trip about this beautiful country…

  9. Janin Jalal:

Really loved the Sri Lanka splendour tour. It was the perfect mix of seeing and doing. Climbing Sigiriya was a fabulous experience – well worth the early morning rise. Seeing the elephants in the wild was also a highlight. Our guide, Indi, was so knowledgeable and nothing was to much trouble. Would highly recommend this tour!

  10. Jajeev chandra:

We have forgotten to collect a pair of leather boot from our last hotel, which was placed on the balcony. If you can mail it to us it could be great.

  11. Erika Lingfer:

Don’t be worried about the Easter trouble in Sri Lanka. Security is good and we felt 100% safe throughout. AsangaSaman our guide was amazing and we can’t thank him enough for his hard work, sense of humour and encyclopaedic knowledge. Not to mention his ‘band’! What an amazing country. Ancient culture, modern culture, wildlife on your doorstep much of the time, great food always ‘medium’ spiced! Overall a great trip I can’t recommend it highly enough.

  12. Genev Agnes:

I would highly recommend this trip. Our guide, Nandana was excellent. Most of the days were jam packed but still a little bit of down time towards the end. I felt like we got to experience some of the true culture but also see the important tourist bits. Accommodation was better than expected.

  13. Andra:

The Sri Lanka splendour tour was excellent and we liked it a lot. The itinerary was well balanced with lot of activities for kids as well as for adults. At the beginning, we thought that it could be tiring for little ones because we had to visit a large number of places within the tour, however, things worked very well and it was a well-balanced tour program. We booked affordable accommodation, but they were very good, clean an safe. Good food too. Our guide Sira did a nice job and explained everything very well.

  14. Rusel nair:

Thoroughly enjoyed 7 days tour. It is hard to believe that this 7 days tour could offer this much of activities on a 7 days trip with time spent on travelling. The trip is properly planned, you simply can’t do it without experience. Great accommodation, activities and a wonderful cultural experience.

  25. Louise:

The tour through the cultural triangle, hill country, beaches, south coast was a unique experience that I will not forget for the rest of my life. We saw a lot in a week and everything was super organized. Our guide Gihan always took excellent care of us and always tried to make sure that everyone was fine and that everyone got their money’s worth. I particularly liked that he gave us a lot of knowledge about the culture, history, religion, country and people. The hotel and our private bus, which we always traveled with, were all in very good condition, making the journey very comfortable. I always felt very safe on the trip (despite the challenging time in Sri Lanka due to the economic down turn) and would recommend the tour to anyone who wants to see the Sri Lanka’s cultural triangle but doesn’t want to sacrifice much of your precious time. The tour is particularly ideal for people who love see a lot of Sri Lanka in short period of time and save money!

  26. Helena:

  27. Daizy:

A wonderful trip, well organised. So good to have a tour guide, felt safe.

  28. Riana:

We can absolutely recommend this local company for a Sri Lanak trip without any hesitant. They even allowed us to pay on arrival. Although I normally like to travel on my own but due to the prevailing small social unrest, I chose to go on an organized trip. And my decision was proved to be well worth. We had a fabulous time and enjoyed our trip to the fullest with our nice and friendly guide ‘SIRI’. Everything very well organized.

  29. Shen hui:

Great trip of Sri Lanka for a first timer on the island! Great itinerary which is a mix between intense city days and chilled days by the sea.

  30. Lucia:

Had a wonderful experience with Seerendipity. Sri Lanka is such a beautiful country and our wonderful guide made sure all our needs were met and that our trip was a memorable one.

  31. hik:

Do it. You won’t regret it. I feel like I got to see so much in a week. It’s not a ‘relaxing’ pace, but we covered so much ground and saw so much each day. Wonderful experience!

  32. Osmira:

We had the most amazing experience doing The splendor tour trip, as the name suggests it is really splendid. My tour guide Chami was fantastic very enthusiastic funny and knowledgable , there was not a day he didn’t make us smile. The trip was very well organised and I didn’t have any boring moments. Thank you for making such a great experience. stuti !!!

  33. Stefan:

Excellent service and trip throughout, very professional and very reasonably priced with good hotels, nice car and delicious food

  34. Illias:

Ultimate 5 days, jam-packed days of adventure through Sri Lanka. My favorite was the hill country. I definitely recommend the temples, palaces, and ruins in the cultural triangle! Not a “relaxing” week but comfortable, nonetheless. The accommodations were all clean and comfortable. Highly recommend!

  35. Hudson:

A fascinating, fun, safe and very well organised tour with a real family atmosphere . It is a great introduction to Sri Lankan culture – I can’t wait to come back for longer next time!

  36. Breman:

This trip had some amazing sights, which we were privileged to experience. The Sri Lankan culture is so diverse and very interesting. We appreciated everything we seen and did,

  37. Anna podroiva:

Had an amazing time on this trip. The Trip moved quite quickly through and was somewhat intense so not the trip for someone wanting a lot of solo time. I would highly recommend it. This trip took me to a lot of places I would not have been game enough to venture to on my own. As a solo female traveller I felt incredibly safe while on tour.

  38. Cudra:

This was our first trip to Sri Lanka and because of this experience with Sam as our leader I can’t wait to return . Sam was extremely professional and attentive to each of our needs and Zi could ask him anything . He was also calm , kind and relaxed .

  39. Daizy:

Great local guide with heaps of local knowledge. The places were interesting and the optional activities were well chosen. I had a wonderful time.

Definitely and highly recommend anyone doing the Seerendipity tours Well done to you all

  43. Mahboob Agarwal:

This trip is a great introduction to visiting the country for the first time. Friendly people, great food and stunning sights, from tea plantations to beach sunsets (no filter needed). Our guide was fantastic, unfortunately, I don’t remember his name. I just returned from Sri Lanka a couple of days ago, and highly recommend.

  44. Jurgen gomez:

We were looking for touring in Sri Lanka for a long time. We planned this trip initially in 2020 but had to postpone due to the pandemic. Seerendipity tours helped us to do the trips as it was initially planned with few changes to the hotels. However, they mainta8ned the same rate as it was before. The trip was very interesting and we enjoyed a lot. Our guide Saman was very knowledgeable about his country and its nature, customs and history. Very nice itinerary with a large number of places to visit and it includes plenty time to relax and enjoy.

  45. Kaith Almansouri:

Excellent Sri Lanka trip, Very well planned with good hotels, good food and excellent driver/guide.

  46. ilham Diab:

We had to undergo a 14 days quarantine period before the trip. It would have been better if we could omit it, however, we had to obey the rules. The quarantine hotel was good and all the facilities were available in the hotel but we were not able to go out of the resiort. After the PCR test on day 15th, they allowed us to go out. The trip was excellent and very well planned. Fantastic program, it is well balanced with history, culture, nature, and wonderful Sri Lanak food. Our guide kusum didma nice job and we are very happy with his service.

  47. Jerome sambhi:

We were bit hesitant before planing the trip. But we thought that we need to take this trip as we have not gone out for a many months due to the pandemic. We needed a break very badly and wanted to travel. This was our first foreign trip since the start of the pandemic. The thing was very satisfactory and everything was very well and thoughtfully organized. Very well-chosen hotels that stick to health protocols and they provide very good service. The tour itinerary was well organized and the timing was perfect when visiting tourist attractions (there were separate time slots for locals and foreign travellers when visiting tourist places). Our guide chamil did a fantastic job and we felt very safe with him. We did not mingle with local people and we were not allowed to do that.

  48. Ian:

Very well put together. Excellent local guide. Mr Gihan raj. Be very lucky if you get a chance to book this trip with him

  49. Romeal:

I have taken many trips into various parts of Sri Lanka and most of them were with my friends and organized our own. This is teh first time I booked a trip through a local tour operator. The trip was fantastic and the local trip organized did a fantastic job. We just had to enjoy the tour with our family members. Good hotels, transport and good local guide.

  50. jehan fernando:

Fantastic hassle free Sri Lanka trip, everything was perfectly organized and prices are very reasonable. I can tell this was on our best private tours, Sri Lanka trip was amazing! I cant recommend it too highly – we had so many different and delightful sights, activities, tastes and experiences.

  51. Mirreli:

We decided to take this Excellent trip after our quarantine period on the beach resort, thoroughly enjoyed Sri Lanka, so much to see in such a small island. Itinerary was busy but had a good mix of some leisure time in between. Travelled with an amazing driver/guide (saman), he did a fantastic job. We felt very safe everywhere we travelled eventhough the new corona patients are recorded time to time around the island.

  52. Romesh adikari:

We were bit hesitant to take the trip amidst the pandemic but soon after starting the tour, we felt we were safe during the amazing trip. A great, supported way to see the highlights in Sri Lanka. The tour leader was so knowledgeable.

  53. Emma mohammed:

What a fantastic way of exploring Sri Lanka – the tour is full of interesting places, it showcases some of the most important places of Sri Lanka like ancient temples, national parks, hill country etc. Gamini our driver/guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. It was so well organised, wonderful job done by Seerendipity tours.

  54. Kamal hasan:

We had a really great private tour with saman. Our guide saman was a very nice and friendly guy. We saw lots, did lots and all made very easy by the Seerendipity team.

  55. Rodrigo gheena:

Very nice trip to Sri Lanka and relax

  56. Emma sulaiman:

I chose Seerendipity after considering many tours of other companies. Many other tour operators offer a similar trip package as group tours and the price is the same as of this trip. Since this is my first trip after COVID-19, I did not want to be a CORONA patient and wanted to go for a private. Afterall the price difference between this private trip and group tour with a similar itinerary si not much. Our Guide Gamini was excellent.

  57. Fernandez:

If you need sunshine, palm trees, encounter wildlife, leopard spotting, coconuts, beaches, trekking, watching birds, friendly people, monkeys, culture, delicious food, coconut alcohol and tea, go to Sri lanka! Totally safe time there thanks to our wonderful driver/guide Kusum. Fantastic trip with good hotels, comfortable vehicle and hassle-free private tour.

Sri Lanka was lockdown for 3 months from March and it is being a few months since the tourist places are opened for travellers. All places have safety protocol implemented but hotels and tourist places are empty.

  58. Andres paleno fernando:

Splendour tour Sri Lanka is a great trip with a mixture of history, culture, relaxation, great scenery and local experiences. I had such a great time and have made memories I will cherish forever. Most tourist sites are still largely vacant and hotels are also still empty.

  59. Lamia neiza:

We enjohyed the trip a lot and it was a kind of trip we expected. We had only few days for the trip because we wanted to spend time on the beaches and have leisure. The trip was just 3 days but it includes many things such as hsitprical paces, temnples, wildlife, hill country, rainforest and many more. our gude janaka was very good and evry happy with his service.

  60. jhina jakobson:

The splendour tour was splendid. Sri Lanka is a beautiful country and the people are very frindly and they know the guest treatments. Splendour tour is a great way to get to know this beautiful country and its friendly people. It packs in touring, historical sites, trekking, villages, hill country and beaches. Just one warning – be prepared for the fact that your face will ache from smiling so much!

  61. Vinay noor:

The local company was recommended by one of our friends, who had done an adventure tour with Seerendipity. But we opted for this 7 days trip with a bit of nature, culture and wildlife. We did not want to get engaged in adventure activities because of our kids. Everything was a memorable private trip for our family.

  62. Johannes:

Visiting cultural monuments, wildlife parks and trekking to the waterfall, nice trip

  63. Linda:

    Excellent tour

  64. Giano chori:

At Elephant hotel Sigiriya, we lost our money. It was stolen from the safety deposit box and hotel did not take any action in that regards. However, the local tour operator directed us to the tourist police. The police investigated the complaint promptly and ordered the hotel to refund our money. Our driver/Guide Ruwa was very helpful and he was al the time with us until the entire issue was solved, fantastic service.

According to the itinerary, we had to get up early morning every day because the itinerary is fully packed, however, we changed the itinerary our own, instead of giving priority to visit places we opted to have some leisure, and not visited a few places along the way. Our tour leader, Sam made it an extra special trip, thank you.

    Happy with the trip

  145. Chitrangee Kumar:

Splendour Sri Lanka is a great itinerary for those who have a relatively short time but want to see most of the country. It is tiring (particularly first half) but it is worth it. Our guide, Malan, was amazing, and he drives very carefully. In a country that has been through some tough times, I always felt safe through the trip and cannot recommend highly enough.

  146. Kresto Hetem:

The trip was amazingly well organised and included lots of great activities in a short space of time and gave us a great insight into Sri Lanka’s history, wildlife and culture. One of our friends introduced the tour and local company, however, we were a bit hesitant to book the trip because we did not know about seerendipity tours. Later we came to know that they are one of the best tour companies on the island. Sam our tour leader was exceptional his enthusiasm and knowledge was second none!

  149. Mihael chong:

Sri Lankan splendour is wonderful exposure to Sri Lankan history, agriculture, climate, culture and and food. Experiencing hundreds of elephants in their natural environment may have been one of the highlights- or perhaps it was visiting the herb and spice garden to learn about Ayurvedic Medicine. The fabulous food, the friendly locals, the tea plantations, the UNESCO World Heritage sites, eating local food and sharing time with ou own family made for a memorable holiday.

  151. rasmus Cherian:

  157. Michael endecott:

We did not like the way it was implemented by our driver/guide. He was trying to charge us for the cultural show of Kandy despite that it was part of the tour itinerary.

  158. Kareem:

I would highly recommend Sri Lanka as a destination for your next trip. The people are friendly, the food delicious, wildlife amazing and the variety of the itinerary was great. So much to do and see. It’s a beautiful country.

We were provided with guides whenever we came to tourist places and they are so-called site guide (assigned to explain about particular tourist site). The guide in Sigiriya was good but he was pushy and urging us to buy some souvenir from one of his friends.

Really loved splendour Sri Lanka tour. It was the perfect mix of seeing and doing. We loved the cultural sites, wildlife reserve, botanical garden, beaches, mountains. Also climbing Sigiriya was a fabulous experience – well worth the early morning rise. Seeing the elephants in the wild was also a highlight. Our guide, Malan, was so knowledgeable and nothing was to much trouble. Would highly recommend this tour!

LOVED THIS TRIP! Would recommend!! We saw so much of Sri Lanka. A mix of city, beach, rural and towns. We ate the most incredible meals, saw the most beautiful smiles and Milan our driver/guide drove a comfortable sedan and he was the best tour guide! Caring, funny and thoughtful.

The splendour Sri Lanka trip gave a great snapshot of how beautiful Sri Lanka is. We trekked through archaeological sites, tea gardens, botanical gardens, cycled ruins, met locals, ate so much amazing food, saw a huge herd of elephants on a wildlife jeep safari, relaxed on the beach, and visited beautiful Stupa’s, Buddha’s and temples, and so much more. I had an amazing time and met some lovely people. If you haven’t been to Sri Lanka before, add it to your holiday wish list.

Fabulous trip with a non stop itinerary making sure you visit all the highlights of Sri Lanka. The contrast between the temples, the tea plantations and the trekking to the waves on the west coast made for a fantastic time!

Of all the tours I’ve done, Splendour tour Sri Lanka was the best by far. Seerendipity did an amazing job by organizing this memorable trip for us. If you book this tour and manage to get Malan as your driver/guide you will have struck gold – he’s half the reason the tour was so good. The food was awesome, local people so friendly and Sigiriya – OMG it’s right up there with Machu Picchu and Uluru. Sir Lanka – loved it.
