Day 1
Colombo / Negombo
Welcome to Negombo, Sri Lanka. You can arrive at a convenient time, and your driver will be at the airport to welcome you. However, your Negombo city tour will take place in the evening.
Negombo is a fishing village near the airport. The beach northward from the airport is dotted with hundreds of hotels with easy access to pristine beaches; we have booked your accommodation here.
A city tour includes all the major tourist attractions and places in Negombo, mainly the Negombo Fish Market, Negombo Lagoon, Hamilton Dutch Canal and more. You will be doing the city tour with your guide early evening, and he will pick you up from the hotel.
The tour kicked off with a visit to the Negombo ‘Lellama’ Fish Market, the second-largest fish market in Sri Lanka. See fresh daily catch of different types of fish and seafood. Later, drive along the Hamilton Dutch Canal that cruises through the town of Negombo. Explore views of broad walkways, majestic trees, and local fishermen working on their boats and nets, which are reflections of daily life in Negombo.
After the boat tour, visit Negombo Lagoon, which is the main landmark of Negombo. It is rich in biodiversity of plants and animals and an aquatic ecosystem. Explore its beauty via a local catamaran that would take you through swamps of mangroves and the Muthurajawela wetlands, which are part of the lagoon. You would see many birds and fishermen fishing along the lagoon.
Later, visit St. Mary’s Church, one of the largest churches in Sri Lanka. Embrace its neoclassic style of beautiful and extraordinary European art and architecture stemming from the colonial eras.
Thereafter, reflect on a piece of colonial history by a visit to the Negombo Dutch Fort. Originally built by the Portuguese in a pentagonal style, today you would notice its eastern bastion with mounds at its northern and southern ends that still remain.
Later, head on to your beach hotel, relax on the beach with tea for a few hours till sunset, a breathtaking sight to be captured for memories.
Accommodation
Negombo
Those who arrive early can make a Negombo city tour on their own or with the help of their guide. First, check out the sights on foot, then soak up some epic views and learn all about the history and culture of Negombo. If you’d prefer to explore on your own, perhaps stroll the seaside, observe the local fishing craft, and perhaps feast on fresh seafood. The beautiful surrounding countryside is best explored on a bicycle, which you can rent with help from the hotel reception.
Day 2
Negombo / Anuradhapura / Sigiriya
From Negombo, continue your journey by private vehicle to Sigiriya. Visit numerous temples and ancient monuments in Anuradhapura, Mihintale, and Aukana on the way, which should take around five hours in total (280 kilometers).
Stop at Anuradhapura and visit the temples, museums, dagobas, forts, stupas, and many other ancient monuments (UNESCO world heritage site), including Aukana and Mihintale.
Anuradhapura
Anuradhapura, with the recent excavations, the history goes back to the 8th C.BC. Or 2800 BP. However, legends take history more than 3000-5000 years. (Ramayana is one of them.) At that time, there were 4 tribes living in Sri Lanka. Kingdom lasted one thousand and five hundred years from 380 BC. This city is home to many of the earliest and grandest monuments of Sri Lanka. A popular destination for the Sinhalese Buddhist pilgrimage because of its many ancient Buddhist monuments.
Anuradhapura was made the royal capital by King Pandukabhaya in 380 BC. It remained the residence and royal capital for 119 successive Singhalese kings till the year 1000 AD, when it was abandoned and the capital moved to Polonnaruwa. You will see some of the most famous, as well as the tallest dagoba of Sri Lanka, remains from palaces, temples, monasteries, ceremonial baths, and the temple of the holy Bo tree. This tree was grown from a sapling of the very tree under which more than 2500 years ago the Buddha found enlightenment. You will visit all these places on our hop-on, hop-off Anuradhapura City Tour.
• Ruwanwelisaya: It is a “stupa” that was built by King Dutugamunu and is one of the biggest completed ones to date.
• Thuparamaya: It is the oldest ‘dagoba’ in Sri Lanka and possibly the oldest visible one in the world.
• Lovamahapaya: The significance of this building is that the roof was once covered in bronze tiles.
• Abhayagiri: It is one of the biggest viharas in Anuradhapura. It was a monastery of 5000 monks.
• Jethavanaramaya: It is a sacred world heritage site and accommodated some 3000 monks at the time. It is also quite similar to Abhayagiri.
• Mirisavetiya: This stupa was built by King Dutugamunu after defeating King Elara.
• Lankaramaya: This is also built by a king called King Valagamba in the Anuradhapura Kingdom times and is one of the eight sacred places in the city.
Aukana Buddha Statue
The Avukana statue is considered one of the best examples of a standing statue of the Buddha from ancient Sri Lanka. The Avukana statue is a standing statue of the Buddha near Kekirawa in North Central Sri Lanka. The statue, which has a height of more than 46 feet (14 m), was carved out of a large granite rock face during the 5th century. It depicts a variation of the Abhaya mudra, and the closely worn robe is elaborately carved. Constructed during the reign of Dhatusena, it may have been made as a result of a competition between a master and a pupil. The Avukana statue is one of the best examples of a standing statue built in Sri Lanka. It is now a popular tourist attraction.
Mihintale
Mihintale, a mountain peak near Anuradhapura, is the oldest Buddhist temple in Sri Lanka and is considered the cradle of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. It is now a pilgrimage site and the site of several religious monuments and important historical constructions, such as the Ayurveda hospital.
Heinz E. Müller-Dietz (Historia Hospitalism 1975) describes the hospital as being perhaps the oldest in the world.

Sigiriya is located in the central Matale District near the town of Dambulla in the Central Province, Sri Lanka. The name refers to a site of historical and archaeological significance that is dominated by a massive column of rock nearly 200 meters (660 ft) high. According to the ancient Sri Lankan chronicle, the Culavamsa, the site was selected by King Kasyapa (477–495 CE) for his new capital. He built his palace on the top of this rock and decorated its sides with colorful frescoes. On a small plateau about halfway up the side of this rock, he built a gateway in the form of an enormous lion. The name of this place is derived from this structure —Sīhāgiri, the Lion Rock. The capital and the royal palace were abandoned after the king's death. It was used as a Buddhist monastery until the 14th century.
Polonnaruwa
Polonnaruwa is the second-most historical city in Sri Lanka. It was made the capital of Sri Lanka after Anuradhapura. The second most ancient of Sri Lanka's kingdoms, Polonnaruwa was first declared the capital city by King Vijayabahu I, who defeated the Chola invaders in 1070 to reunite the country once more under a local leader.
Today the ancient city of Polonnaruwa remains one of the best-planned archaeological relic sites in the country, standing testimony to the discipline and greatness of the Kingdom's first rulers. Its beauty was also used as a backdrop to film scenes for the Duran Duran music video Save a Prayer in 1982. The ancient city of Polonnaruwa has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
The city tour includes palaces, dagobas, and temples and provides a good example of Sri Lankan historical craftsmanship. In this 3-hour guided tour of the ancient city of Polonnaruwa, you will cover some of the following attractions:.
• Royal Palace (Palace of King Parakramabahu, the most prolific and gifted builder of the era)
• Nissankamulla Palace (royal audience hall with impressive stonework)

The Uttararama is a rock temple of the Buddha situated in the ancient city of Polonnaruwa. It was fashioned in the 12th century by Parakramabahu I. The central feature of the temple is four rock relief statues of the Buddha, which have been carved into the face of a large granitic (granite gneiss) rock. The images consist of a large, seated figure, another smaller seated figure inside an artificial cavern, a standing figure and a reclining figure. These are considered to be some of the best examples of ancient Sinhala sculpting and carving arts and have made the Gal Vihara the most visited monument at Polonnaruwa.
Minneriya safari
Minneriya National Park is one of the most visited national parks on the island and is considered to be one of the best places for a safari in Sri Lanka. Minneriya safari lasts around 3-4 hours, giving you all the opportunities to spot elephants, wild buffaloes, crocodiles, and many other creatures, plus avian fauna species.

Sri Lanka is located on the East-West Sea route and is visited by traders in order to exchange their goods with the local traders. Even though Colombo was a well-known city among the ancient traders 2,000 years ago, the capital city of the country had been Anuradhapura. There was an Arabian settlement in the city of Colombo at the mouth of the Kelani River. Arab traders were exporting goods from the port of Colombo. Goods such as cinnamon, ivory, gems, and elephants were exported by the king of Kotte with the help of Arabs. With the beginning of the British colonial period, Colombo city received a prominent place as the capital of Ceylon. Colombo was the capital of the island from 1815 to 1978 until the administrative capital was moved to Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte.
Galleface
This had been a well-known racecourse during the British colonial period in the country. This racecourse, which is located bordering the Indian Ocean, had to be abandoned later on due to the sea crabs, which are making holes in the track. Afterwards, it was developed as a promenade for the city dwellers and named Galle to face Green. Today Galle Face Green contains an open theater and spacious open space for picnics, sports, and walking.
Gangarama temple
It is considered to be one of the most sacred places in the country. Temple is one of the three places that Buddha visited in the 6th century B.C. The well-known Kelaniya Dagoba is located within the border of the temple. The Kalyani River, which flows next to the temple, adds more value to the scenic beauty of the temple. This temple holds a reputation for its attractive wall, which is considered to be the best painting of the Modern Era.
Viharamahadevi park
Viharamahadevi is located in Colombo 7, or Cinnamon Gardens. It is the largest and most popular park in the city. It is believed that there had been a twenty-square-kilometer cinnamon plantation in the area. Today most of the palaces of wealthy people can be seen in the area, and Colombo 7 is the most picturesque part of the city.
Wolvendaal church
The Wolvendaal Church is located in Fort and within walking distance from the center of the city. It has a large collection of tombstones of important Dutch personalities. It was a wonderful Sri Lanka trip and it gave me a very good picture of Sri Lankas history, nature and wildlife. Our guide kusum was fantastic and we felt very safe and comfortable with him. All hotels are very good. The National park tour was the main highlights for us. Our jeep driver managed to position us to have a very close look on a leopard. Very well organized trip. I feel the trip worth more than what paid for. Thank you.
Deborah Romina Koch– :
This was fantastic trip! Please continue with this great work.
Arguado– :
A packed schedule providing a genuine taste of rural and city life in Sri Lanka. Sameera was an excellent tour guide; he was truly knowledgeable and enthusiastic. There should be some improvements for the accommodation.
Monica– :
We are very happy that we booked 8-day Sri Lanka trip. The tour was packed with many interesting places and activities, well worth of time and money. Ruwan was an outstanding tour guide who was extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic about his job. Verry attentive about our requirements. Well planned tour itinerary with nice hotels, good food, good vehicle and wonderful guide.
Fiona dang– :
Our trip to Sri Lanka was fantastic; the 7-day program was packed with interesting activities, sites and experinces. The tour was well planned. For the amount we spent, we did not anticipate such good hotels. The food at the hotel is quite great, and the facilities are excellent. Our tour guide was amiable and gave us thorough explanations. The booking procedure was really simple. All we needed to do was submit our names, and the reservation was completed quickly.
Edison O. Shah– :
Our guide was very helpful and knowledgeable; he taught us a lot about Sri Lanka’s history, nature, and Sri Lankans. We enjoyed comfortable accommodations and an enjoyable itinerary. Unfortunately, it was raining as we were reaching the coastal area.
Ruban– :
Happy with the trip

Dear Serendipity tours
I would like to provide some amazing feedback on my 8 day tour.
Jaya was my tour guide. He quickly became my friend. He drove safely and got us places fast so I could maximise the time doing activities. He made me feel very safe and cared for wherever we went.
I shared I like Buddhism so he pointed out temples and tailored the trip to suit me.
He gave great information on all the city tours and even when we were driving through towns.
I tried lots of Sri Lankan food and had the experience of eating from local shops. The hotels and activities I did were all 10/10.
I had an incredible time and saw so many amazing places in 4 days. I would recommend Serendipity to all my friends and family back in Australia.
rasimus– :
Our trip to Sri Lanka was wonderful. 8-day trip was very well planned. everything as per the tour itinerray. Very trustworthy compmay. Jaya was a wonderful guide with tons of experience and very knowldegable guide. Certainly, I would recommend this excursion!
Carens– :
A few less temples and shopping, along with perhaps a few more time on the beach, might have made for a better tour, but overall, we had a great time in Sri Lanka and thoroughly appreciated the amazing 8 days program. Good accommodation, transport, guiding and Meals too.
Romiel– :
The excursion was precisely as planned, and we had just completed the walk prior to the deluge; Kamal, our guide, was exceptionally kind and accommodating.
Valmer– :
The trip was quite interesting, and the most essential thing is that it is a private tour. We skipped a lot of tourist attractions and instead chose to have leisure time, which was amazing. The trip was very well planned with nice, safe hotels and good food.
Martina– :
Wonderful Sri Lanak trip with a very helpful guide
Julie– :
The 8-day trip was just amazing! Because I had never done anything similar to this before, I was unsure of what to anticipate, but I am so happy that I decided to book the trip with serendipity tours. I was taken aback to see such a large number of tourists from other countries in Sri Lanka. Nearly all of the hotels that we went to were completely occupied.
Every single one of the hotels was of a high quality, it was clean and safe, it had a fantastic car, and the guide was really kind and knowledgable. Victor was an excellent tour guide who possessed a wealth of knowledge regarding the nation, its people, its culture, and the majority of other aspects of the country. I shall always hold dear the memories that I collected on my journey.
Rumy– :
Just got back from an eight-day trip in Sri Lanka. It was a great trip, and I would suggest Sri Lanka in general… As a private tour in a nice car, the trip was very relaxed and gave everyone the most privacy possible. Chamith, our driver/guide, showed us the places very well. Bring some pens for the kids you meet while walking…
Fred Thomas– :
What a wonderful experience it was to drive this nation with Chameera at the helm!
He definitely has extensive knowledge of Sri Lanka, including its interiors and exteriors, as well as how to navigate it. He can maneuver past buses, dogs, elephants, and tooks with the horn like a pro. His driving gave us a great sense of security and safety. Well done, sir. Thank you.
I also submitted a review for the actual tour that we went on. I heartily advise using Seerendipity tours to arrange your travel and excursions in Sri Lanka.
Victor Jim Yong– :
Our chance to find the 8-day tour of Sri Lanka was through the serendipity website. We then called them on WhatsApp. We got in touch with them just a few weeks before our trip. They answer questions quickly and are very helpful. They changed some of the plans and made the tour unique for us. Our tour guide, Rohan, showed them all the places I had written down and was always on time. He told us a lot of useful things, which made our trip fun and interesting. If you want to have an amazing trip to Sri Lanka, this 8-day tour is the way to go.

Simply Sri Lanka is a great trip for a first time to Sri Lanka! Great itinerary which is a mix between intense city days and chilled days by the sea. A great local organization which gave us a good discount upon hearing that we are foreign diplomats, working in Colombo. Still, not much travellers on the way, even the lockdown restrictions are fully withdrawn.

My husband and I travelled to Sri Lanka with the sole goal of discovering a non-touristy side of the island. We wanted to experience the real life and see a real thing, that’s why we booked the trip with a local operator. The people associated with local company are from SriLanka, and they know their country. For the 8 days trip in Sri Lanka we had Jaya as our guide.. I gotta say that this was one of the best tours we’ve ever had. He was an incredibly knowledgeable, interesting, friendly, engaging, & entertaining guide. His love for his country is visible in every move. I must say he knowns the stuff very well. His stories were fascinating. It wasn’t a one-way street though. There was a conversation going for the entire 8 days of the tour. We talked about everything – religion, wildlife, life, art, history, politics, etc. It felt like we were hanging out with an old friend. When our official tour was over, jaya stayed with us for another couple hours showing us amazing art galleries. That generosity of the heart is what Sri Lanka is all about. In the end we were saying goodbyes to a friend. We will definitely recommend Jaya to all of our friends traveling to Sri Lanka.
Jacky– :
The 8 days tour with roshan was exceptionally good. He was very knowledgeable, he explained a lot about history, culture, religion, nature, wildlife and we learnt a lot. We visited a large number of temples, memorials, historical buildings, museums. He pointed out inscriptions, stumble blocks, told stories, shared history all in a very sensitive way. We had a brilliant time with roshan, learnt a lot and I would definitely recommend booking this trip.

Incredible seerendipity! We had the most amazing adventure with Seerendipity and would like to personally thank our friendly guide Sudesh for giving us an amazing opportutnity to explore Sri Lanka. He was our guide for two weeks and he did a fantastic job. It was our first time in Sri Lankan and south Asia and we would not have had the same Sri Lankan experience if it wasn’t for Sudesh and the brilliant tour organized by Seerendipity. The optional Village tour with cooking class was very special and the it was very well planned to give us best experince, I love the rural setting with paddy fields, lakes, jungle and cozy small houses. We have many happy memories of meeting the wonderful people in the villages we visited, especially the beautiful, happy smiling children.

Early morning rise almost every day during the trip; however, we had plenty of time in the beach resort. We visited a large number of cultural places, historical monuments and temples. It is interesting to know that many thousands of years building are still well preserves. Nice beaches with snow white, clean sand. Plenty of chances for diving, snorkeling, surfing, water sport. However, we were bit short of time for it as we had to leave for Male next day. Tour guide was excellent.
Brendon Karl– :
Tour was very good. We covered a lot of ground in Sri Lanka and travellers nearly thousands kilometers. The tour was bit strenuous sometimes with travelling and walking in tourist sites. However, it was interesting. Gantha was very nice tour guide and gave us plenty of time to relax.

Early morning start but vehicle broke down so couldn’t be picked up from our hotel so was contacted and requested to catch a cab across town. That was all good and I was reimbursed for the taxi ride. Nice driver and tour guide. Fantastic tour itinerary and it was very suitable private tour for a family. We did not take a tour for a long time due to the pandemic, however, this trip to Sri Lana was fantastic. After a long time we enjoyed our holiday a lot. It was a fantastic break for the entire family. The kids enjoyed the trip a lot. All sightseeing tour are private and gave us plenty of space and privacy to enjoy the trip.
Desmind– :
Great guide with heaps of local knowledge. The places were interesting and the optional tours were well chosen. I had a wonderful time.

Alex babu– :
I like when guides share the country history and information about where we are driving as we go. Chami was very informative. Despite the pandemic there was a lot touristy than I expected. My advice would be follow the health guidelines as much as possible. However, all hotels and tourist sites follows the protocols introduced by the health authorities, we felt very safe. Over all experience is very good.

We ventured on the trip a few days before the starts of the second wave of COVID-19. however, the hotels and tourist sites are still empty. only a few local travellers can be seen on the way. Very good for local travellers and hotels are giving extremely attractive discounts. Very good Sri Lanka trip with a bit of everything, busy metropolis cities, laid-back countryside, ancient monuments, wildlife parks, pristine forests, hill country and pristine beaches. Excellent trip itinerary covering off an introduction to Srilanka. Includes modern cities, ancient monuments, hill country resorts, uncrowded wildlife parks, smaller towns and villages, and several modes of transport, so people feel like they have seen and experienced a good chunk of this tropical nationa. Great stress free way to see the country.
Ludwig rude– :
The company organized the cost-free pick up from our beach on the south coast, otherwise, it could have been an expensive transfer for us. Very interesting trip with a fascinating mix of culture, nature, wildlife and many more.
Binoy Tank– :
This 8 days Sri lanka trip is excellent for those new to Sri Lanka and combines so many different elements of Srilanka in one short week- amazing temples, forts, stupas, and palaces, quiet rural villages, the bumpy ride through the pristine forest of Udawalawe national park and the history of Galle and Kandy as well, with lots of different places to stay (wonderful hotels). Sri Lanka is a place of such contrasts, I felt like we got a glimpse into the real Sri Lanka on this tour, while still taking in the major tourist sites we really couldn’t miss. The food throughout the trip was excellent, we didn’t get sick at all and our personal driver/guide Kusum was funny and very organized. It made travel (on so many types of transport) a breeze. Take hand sanitizer, earplugs, a warm jacket if visiting in winter (Nuwara Eliya quite cold in Jan/ Feb) and a sense of adventure and you’ll have a great time. Our only downside to this trip was the fact we didn’t get to see a leopard at Yala NP, but we did see herds of elephants, crocodiles, monkeys and indian deer, so all is not lost of the tigers are playing hard to find.
Edward– :
A great trip that is jam packed with activities for one week. You see a lot of Sri Lanka in one week and I only wish I was staying here for longer. Be ready to be exhausted at the end of your trip. The tour guides are amazing and you learn so much from them.
Brenda F– :
Seerendipity is a cultural and environmentally friendly company oozing in local knowledge. I’ve travelled alone and with my daughter and love the authenticity of seerendipity.
Olivier obuchowski– :
It is a pity we had only a few hours in Negombo, such a nice beach. However, the overall experience was very good with Rohan (our driver guide).
Gina bass– :
I would highly recommend this trip. Our guide, Kusum was excellent. Most of the days were jam packed if you do all the optional activities but still a little bit of down time towards the end. I felt like we got to experience some of the true culture but also see the important tourist bits. Accommodation was better than expected.
Alisan Bishek– :
Amazingly hospitable people, pity about enhanced security checks but understandable, it won’t sort out political dissent, only debate and discussion may
Edward– :
Good trip

Simply srilanka offers a wonderful opportunity to discover the most important historical places of Sri Lanka and many of them are UNESCO world heritage sites. In just 8 days this srilanka trip will take you from the busy streets of old Colombo and on to magnificent sigiriya rock . Moving on travelers will touch waterfalls, tea gardens, mountains, wildlife parks and beaches and wonderful bazaars of Kandy that are especially distinguished for its precious stones….

Hill clountry train tip is definitely an experience. This trip is not a holiday destination but a way to experience this fascinating country.
Salem fronteddu– :
A very poor trip. We did not feel safe during the ride, it was driven too fast. We were on a family trip with just 5 people, we got a mini-van, which had too small seats. Very exhausting and we got sick. Hotels are except the first hotel, where the room was bit old.

Simply srilanka tour was a well paced and excellent overview of all major aspects of Sri Lanka. A good balance of modern srilankan life and historical aspects was achieved without being too touristy. Very good guide with excellent driving.

Simply Sri Lanka is a great itinerary for those who have a relatively short time but want to see the most of the country. It is tiring (particularly first half) but it is worth it. Our guide, Sam, was amazing. I always felt safe through the trip and cannot recommend highly enough.

Many thanks to the Seerendipity team for our wonderfully enjoyable and informative Sri Lanka Tour. We really got to engage with the locals thanks to our fantastic guide whose knowledge and passion for promoting his country and sharing its wonders was inspiring. Our MANY meals of rice with curries was amazing and even the accommodation which was, at times, a little up and down it was certainly value for money!. I would highly recommend this trip to many others especially those with reasonable fitness and a search for adventure!

Having never done a trip in SrrLanka before, we didn’t have an idea what to expect. Our trip from Colombo-cultural triangle-hill country-south SriLanka has been fantastic. We would highly recommend this trip.

This Sri Lanka trip was a little disappointing, some places mentioned in the itinerray were far to reach just to sleep there, the accommodation were beyond basic and good food, and service. Very comfortable vehicle with the well knowledgeable driver/guide.

The simply srilanka trip will give you a wonderful flavour of this tropical island. We enjoyed visiting cities, staying luxurious hotels, admiring beautiful architecture and learning more about srilanka’s fascinating history, culture and it’s people. Everything was organised to perfection so that we could see things that you couldn’t easily organise independently.

Soraya– :
The 8 days tour was good, we really enjoyed srilanka. The food and lodging was a huge standout. A few less ancient monuments and maybe a few more activities together with more time on the beach would have improved the tour.
